Research Sees Need for Even Greater Supply Chain VisibilitySubmitted by rwofford on Thu, 08/12/2010 - 10:48
This week I picked up a copy of Aberdeen's benchmark report "International Transportation: Optimize Cost and Service in a Global Market" by Bob Heaney, which outlined some findings pulled from a number of Best-in-Class companies and the metrics that bubbled to the top included some best practices for success in today's marketplace. I found that several of these aligned closely with what we preach (and practice) here at Deposco. One key metric found among the top performers was the high percentage (97.2%) of on-time and complete shipments. This concept of "perfect orders" is one that Deposco customers strive for, and have the tools to attain these benchmark numbers, far easier than their paper and spreadsheet competitors. One of the other key takeaways indicated that increased supply chain visibility was key to creating a sustainable business model, allowing near real-time dynamic optimization to lower costs and increase service. The article goes on to say it is imperative for all companies to leverage technology to streamline processes and provide the kind of visibility required to make proactive decisions. This visibility allows for collaboration between supply chain partners up and down stream. When enabled, this type of visibility provided via technology allows best-in-class operations to reduce transportation spending, and allows for reduced inventory carrying costs because you will know exactly how much inventory is on hand and how much is needed. Deposco's eXtended Enterprise allows subscribers to our services to offer logins or even a dedicated tenant to their suppliers and customers so that orders can be created or viewed, order status and shipment details can be shared across organizations, creating this extended visibility across the entire supply chain. No more guesswork. Our Business Intelligence Dashboards bring this relevant data to the surface in an easy-to-digest, easy-to-share format, which allows you to gain control of your operations and lower costs significantly. This is the way forward for companies looking to improve operations, lower transportation costs, become Best-in-Class, and outperform their competitors.
